Welcome to Hooked on Cycling Holidays and our cycling holiday in Italy at the Tuscany Cycle Resort. On this cycling holiday you will experience the Wonderful Tuscan landscapes along with wonderful Tuscan hospitality. Our standard cycling holiday is for seven nights but you can basically stay for more or less days. The region is hilly so we have graded this cycling holiday as a level 2-3 tour. We have individual cycling holidays from early March to late October. The Tuscany Cycle Resort is based in a 4-Star Hotel situated on the top of a hill at Casino di Terra, in the southern part of the Province of Pisa, bordering with the Province of Livorno, in central Tuscany and not far from Cecina.

From the hotel, surrounded by approximately 5 hectares of  land, you can enjoy a marvelous view over the typical hills of the landscape in Tuscany. It is the ideal place for excursions or combining a holiday of relaxation between the sea and the hills. From the hotel it is possible to reach the near Volterra, San Gimignano, Pisa or the beautiful beaches of the so called Costa degli Etruschi. The most important towns of historical and cultural interest like Lucca, Florence and Siena can be reached within about one hour by car or are possibly reached by the fit cyclist.

The Hotel is made up of 3 antique Tuscan farmhouses called Il Mulino, (English the mill) the main building entirely made of stone with the reception, the restaurants and some rooms; Il Vecchio Frantoio (English the old oil mill), also completely built in stone with rooms only and the building near the swimming pool called Il Granaio (English the barn) with fitness room, sauna and rooms. There are 87 rooms in the hotel

The room furnishings are in the typical Tuscan country style with furniture of chestnut wood, wooden beams, terracotta floors and as fittings typical Tuscan materials. The rooms are furnished with all mod cons like air condition, direct telephone, fridge-bar, satellite TV and safe. The bathrooms are equipped with shower, toilet, bidet and hairdryer. Some of the rooms have their own outside space or small balcony with table and chairs.

This Hotel we have chosen as an ideal place for those who love doing sport , road cycling , mountain biking , running , horse riding and tennis. During rainy days or the winter, guests can enjoy the fitness centre, the sauna or the tennis court. The panorama pool of 300 sq.m. with the adjacent pool for children, offers an enchanting view over the Cecina Valley and the Colline Volterrane (hills around Volterra) and moments of complete relaxation.

Although an independent holiday the hotel is often frequented by many cyclists from all over Europe , some weeks with over 100 cyclist particularly in months of March , April , May , September and October giving the hotel a very much international feel. Although we have not arranged guided rides there would be likely opportunity to join other cyclists on rides around the area. We have detailed maps and routes selected from 30 miles to 100 miles on the road and with the National Park only a few kilometres away many routes for mountain bikers. You could even use the routes in the National Park for walking.

Children can feel free, playing around the pool, on the playground, table tennis, football or going by bike.

In Italy, especially in Tuscany, of course there won’t be lack of a good cuisine! The morning starts with a rich breakfast buffet: coffee, cappuccino, crispy rolls, jam, sliced sausages, cheese, fresh egg. In the evening a vast buffet with national and international dishes, naturally accompanied by selected wines. Furthermore we offer a delicious pizza, cooked in the stone oven

During the whole year, there are various recreational activities like wine tasting and cooking courses, whereas in autumn it is possible to take part in the olive harvesting, combined with a cooking course or, in spring it is possible to make a pottery course just ask for details from us.

We have chosen this hotel due to its ideal geographical setting, embedded within the soft hills between the Etruscan coast and Volterra, allows infinite possibilities for excursions by bike. This area is used to train national and international bike professionals because mild temperatures allow to train with racing bikes all year. The sportsmen can enjoy roads winding up hills and framed by cypresses.

We can rent mountain , racing and Hybrid bikes and storage where one can leave the bikes to be protected as well as a hotel workshop for small repairs.

1. Itineraries with the mountainbike
Macchia di Monterufoli:
The woody area is extending over a surface of 3120 ha and is situated on the left of the river Cecina. The height of this area varies between 150 m in the southwestern part, until reaching 560 m height. Within the Macchia di Monterufoli there are a few buildings, of which the imposing Villa di Monterufoli, located in the centre, is the most important one.

Macchia di Decimo
Woody area of approximately 852 ha, situated on the right of Cecina. The area borders in the southern part with the state road SS68 and in the northern part is the river Cortolla the boundary. The height varies between 50 m and 320 m and the slopes are not very high.

Macchia di Magona
Includes an area of 1635 ha characterized by high hills. As of the Macchia di Magona has been taken care for centuries, even today one can find nearly extinct species of the Mediterranean vegetation. Today the area is under the supervision of a biogenetic oasis. It is possible to meet wild boars, roe dears, mouflons and porcupines. Good signposting and maps will allow the biker a complete pleasure all over the 50 km.

How to get there
By Plane
To Pisa airport where transfers are available on request.
Take the train to Cecina from Pisa and take a local taxi from Cecina to the hotel which is around 15 km. Many guests rent a car so they can travel and explore further a field after their ride.
