Welcome to Hooked on Walking holidays and our walking holidays on Sardinia. This hiking vacation on Sardinia is an easy walking tour from the mountains of Sardinia to the Sea. We have graded this walking tour as level 1-2. Descending through oak forests and olive groves you walk towards the west coast to the Island of Sardinia. Once on the coast you will have a series of lovely easy walks along the stunning cliffs and nature reserves on the coastline south to Cabras. This region is a superb region to bird watch with various species resident and migrating to the area. This easy walking tour will enable to to take a glimpse of the Sardinian way of life, sample the local wine and cuisine and view some lovely coastal scenes.

Day 1 ARRIVAL DAY
Transfer or independent arrival to Santu Lussurgiu

Day 2 Santu Lussurgiu – Santa Caterina di Pittinuri 12.5 miles 20 km
The route descents from the village of Santu Lussurgiu, laid in the Montiferru Mountain, to Santa Caterina di Pittinuri, located right on the sea. You will be crossing oak forests, olive groves and quiet pastures. Walking time 4.5-5 hours

Day 3 Santa Caterina di Pittinuri – Su Pallosu 10 miles 16 km
After the village of S’Archittu (which owes its name to the popular natural arch along the nearby coast), we enter the vast forest of Is Arenas, whose pine trees protect the area from the sand dunes erosion. At the end of the forest, we find the Is Benas lagoon home to large colonies of Grey Herons and Pink Flamingos. A beautiful track along the limestone cliff leads you to the beach of Su Pallosu. Walking time 4 hours.

Day 4 Su Pallosu loop 6.25 miles 10 km
Today we walk along the cliffs of Capo Mannu, along the light house and the ancient Spanish watchtowers. After Putzu Idu, a village located on a stretch of coast often visited by the strong Mistral wind which made it a popular spot for sailing and surfing, we return to our hotel in Su Pallosu. Walking time 3 hours.

Day 5 Putzu Idu – San Salvatore Sinis 11.8 miles 19 km
The day starts walking on the amazing cliffs of Su Tingiosu, 6 km of limestone plenty of bird nests. The cliffs end in the beautiful quartz beaches of Mari Ermi and Is Aruttas whose sand is made of little grains of quartz quite similar to rice seeds. In the final part of your day, you move inland, crossing artichoke and wheat fields to arrive in San Salvatore Sinis, famous for its church erected over an hypogeum. Walking time 4 hours.

Day 6  S.Salvatore Sinis – Cabras 6.8 miles 11 km
A pleasant path leads you out of San Salvatore to Cabras, main centre in the Sinis. During the itinerary you walk along artichoke fields, Vernaccia vineyards, olive groves and the Cabras Lagoon, the largest in the area, famous for the grey mullets and above all its Bottarga, the mullet cured roe. Don’t miss the fresh fish, the Bottarga and the Vernaccia wine. Walking time 3 hours.

Day 7 Cabras loop 9.6 miles 15 km
If you are passionate in bird watching today is your day! We’ll cross the swamp of Pauli ‘e Sali, a protected area where an immense number of birds (some are very rare) usually nest. Sheltered by the canes we can take beautiful pictures without disturbing them. You return to the hotel walking along the lagoon shores. Walking time 3.5-4 hours.

By plane to Algherro or Cagliari airports.
Then by train to Macomer and taxi to Santulussurgi. On departure taxi to Oristano and the by train to Alghero or Cagliari.
