Welcome to Hooked on Walking holidays and our walking holidays in Italy. This particular hiking vacation in Italy is in the Dolomites based in a beautiful valley called the Val di Fiemme. Our hotel base is the wonderful 3 star Hotel Los Andes easily reached by train from Bergamo , Verona , Venice and Innsbruck. It is situated in the stunning town of Castello di Fiemme. With is nice indoor pool and outdoor whirlpool it really is a hotel to relax in after a good days walking in the mountains. Family run you will soon feel welcome and start to unwind from that busy life. The valley is in the midst of fabulous walking country , high peaks provide stunning panoramic views as you take the chair lifts and cable cars to the high levels. We have prepared several walks for you of medium difficulty so we have graded this tour as a level 3 but since you are fixed location there is no need to walk each day so the walking holiday can be as relaxing or challenging as you wish. With nice villages easy reachable from the hotel there are many chances for non walkers to also enjoy and occupy themselves.

Suggested walks
Day 1 Arrive to Castello di Fiemme
Arrive to Castello di Fiemme by train and bus ( or private transfer ) . Book into your hotel and take a relaxing walk around the wonderful town.
Day 2 Castello circular 10 miles 16km 600m up/down walking time around 4 hours.
Today mainly on good tracks with no technical difficulties. Today you will first pass the landmark village church before continuing on to Cavalese. Cavalese is a bigger town than Castello and it is well worth taking a break to look around before making your way back to Castello di Fiemme.
Day 3 Schwarzhorn 6-9 miles 10-15km 450m/1480m up/down walking time around 4-5 hours
First a local bus from Castello to Joch Grimm to the start of your walk. This is a varied local walk to the summit overlooking Cavalese and Castello known as the Schwarzorn . It includes some easy scrambling on the ascent and a long descent over mixed ground. There are excellent views along the whole route. The return can be via easy roads and villages or by a longer route on tracks and paths through fields, woods and a stream side walk.
Day 4 Bletterbach and the Weisshorn 8.2 miles 13km 1300/400 up/down walking time around 4.5 hours
Today you will have a private transfer to Unterradein for the start. A bit of a challenge today but your efforts will for certain be rewarded. You will have the long ascent of the Weisshorn on its spectacular hidden side via a world geological site. Initially through woods and villages which will soon be followed by an increasingly impressive gorge, waterfalls and mini Grand Canyon scenes await you before the final rocky ascent. Return by bus.
Day 5 Rest day of further walk
There are so many walking options but after yesterday maybe you deserve a rest. If you decide not to walk ( we do provide walking ideas ) then you can make your way back to Cavalese or maybe further a field to the likes of Trento a compact, totally Italian city with castle, cathedral, museum, shopping and one of the best piazzas in Italy or Bolzano/Bozen a large commercial city, totally Austrian, with a lovely old centre. Renowned for its museum containing ‘Őtzi’, the Ice Man. Go early or be prepared to queue, in high season periods. It has an unusual Gothic cathedral, museums and unlimited shopping in vaulted arcades. Other options include Meran/Merano a charming little city, once the capital of Tirol and for a long time summer residence of Princess Elizabeth.
Day 6 Rosengarten - Ciampedie, Roda de Vael, Pas del Vaiolon 9 miles 14km 1000/1000 up/down around 6 hours walking time.
This morning you will take the bus to the start of you walk around 20km form the hotel. You will take the cable car ride from Vigo Di Fassa to walk a circuit in the stunning scenery of the well known Rosengarten. After your walk a private transfer will also be arranged at a fixed time.
Day 7 Monte Cauriol 7 miles 11km 1000/1000 up/down around 4.5 hours walking time
This morning you will have a private transfer to the starting point around 15km from the hotel. Today is an ascent of one of the accessible peaks of the very scenic Val Sadole in the Lagorai. This was a World War I battlefield and has associated military tracks, but the ascent does involve limited granite boulder fields and a sustained easy scramble up the final summit ridge (though there is an option not to undertake the final ascent). Great panoramic views. The route is relatively short, allowing time to examine the war memorabilia in Rif. Cauriol.
